Anokhi Threads — D2C Ethnic Wear E-Commerce Store

Overview

Anokhi Threads is a concept D2C e-commerce store for a fictional brand selling handcrafted ethnic wear and accessories — saris, kurtas, lehengas, and menswear sourced from small Indian artisans. The project was designed to help a new D2C brand compete against giant marketplaces for buyer trust, with a checkout built around how Indian shoppers actually prefer to pay — UPI and Cash on Delivery front and centre, not buried as an afterthought. The visual identity uses warm Indian textile tones (deep maroon, terracotta, and antique gold) to feel premium and rooted in craft, with a mobile-first layout, pincode-based delivery estimates, and WhatsApp order/shipping updates built in.

The challenge

New D2C fashion brands in India compete directly against large marketplaces like Myntra and Meesho for buyer trust, while first-time online shoppers are often hesitant to pay upfront — many only trust Cash on Delivery until they've ordered successfully once. A generic Shopify template checkout wasn't going to convert well without addressing these local payment and trust habits directly.

The solution

We designed a premium, boutique-feeling storefront with a full transactional flow — filterable product catalog, product detail pages with size/colour selection, cart, and a guest-first checkout offering UPI, cards, net banking, and Cash on Delivery. Trust signals (secure payment, easy returns, COD availability) sit directly beside the buy button rather than buried in the footer, and WhatsApp handles order confirmation and shipping updates to build day-to-day trust beyond email alone. The maroon, terracotta, and gold palette was chosen deliberately to feel rooted in Indian craft rather than a generic reskinned template.
